The Videobox

The Videobox was established to use the power of digital media to make a positive social impact. They believe in a participatory approach, inviting people of all ages and backgrounds to engage in creative projects. Their work is driven by the principle that film and other media can not only educate and inform but also build power and confidence, particularly for marginalized and vulnerable groups.

This community-focused model has enabled them to work with a diverse range of clients, including schools, local authorities, the NHS, and various housing and community groups.

Services and Creative Offerings

The organization delivers a wide range of creative projects and services designed to engage, inspire, and inform. These offerings include:

  • Creative Media Workshops: They provide tailor-made workshops in filmmaking, creative writing, photography, and mixed media. These sessions can be adapted for groups of all ages and skill levels.
  • Arts Award Programs: The Videobox is a registered Arts Award Centre and has qualified Arts Award Advisors. They can offer Arts Awards packages at different levels, from 'Discover' and 'Explore' for primary-aged children to 'Silver' and 'Bronze' for secondary-aged children.
  • Video Production: They produce a variety of video packages for clients, including promotional films, video resources for training, and "Chatterbox" consultation or evaluation videos that are often used for funding bids and reports.
  • Community Projects: Beyond formal video production, they deliver a range of hands-on community projects to connect residents. Examples include community food growing initiatives, social eating projects for isolated older people, community cinema, and a women's group.

The organization has a history of working with people often considered "hard to reach," including young people involved in the criminal justice system, those with substance misuse or mental health issues, asylum seekers, and individuals with additional needs. This focus on empowerment and skill-building has led to reports from participants of increased confidence, improved wellbeing, and a reduction in barriers to employment.
