The National Union of the Homeless is an organization of homeless leaders committed to ending the oppression of all Homeless, Poor & Dispossessed People.
The leaders of this organization knew the effects of oppression of the poor and dispossessed people can have several dangers. Seeing that these problems have lingered for so long, an ideal society can succeed without helping the needy. Some of the long-term challenges include Marginalization.
Oppression can lead to the marginalization of poor and dispossessed people in society. They can feel excluded from mainstream society, which can further perpetuate the cycle of poverty.
Another problem is Lack of access. Poor and dispossessed people may not have access to essential resources, including food, housing, healthcare, and education. This lack of access can result in adverse health outcomes and limited opportunities to improve their lives.
Mental health. Oppression can lead to mental health problems like depression, anxiety, and stress. Living in poverty can be overwhelming and stressful and can affect a person’s physical and emotional wellbeing.
It can also lead to Inequality. Oppression can exacerbate the already existing inequality between the rich and the poor in society. Poor and dispossessed people may not have equal access to opportunities as the wealthy.
Civil unrest. Oppression can lead to civil unrest and social instability. When people are oppressed and marginalized, they may feel disenfranchised and may become more inclined to participate in protests, riots, and other forms of civil unrest.
