Spirit of the Streets Choir

The Spirit of the Streets Choir provides an environment where people from all walks of life and all social backgrounds can come together in song and friendship. SOS, with their accomplished Choir Director Bernard Carney, welcomes everyone as active members of a performing choir in a safe, welcoming and non-judgemental environment.

We have many helpers within the choir who assist with setting up for rehearsal and greeting members and visitors as they arrive, checking the safety of venues, organising celebrations, and not forgetting our wonderful Heather Mithen and Anna Ossy-Orley who provide the choir with afternoon tea each week.

The Choir is a not-for-profit, volunteer based registered organisation, relying on performance fees, grants and donations to keep us singing. Our costs include: rent for the rehearsal hall, insurance, catering, uniforms, storage, printing of books and song sheets, bus hire, and stipend payment for the Choir Director. We thank the many individuals who support the choir financially throughout the year.

Pass the Song Along, written by Bernard Carney, was the signature song for Sing for Health Week in 2017. Bernard wrote the song for everyone to have fun singing and promote the health benefits of singing and being part of a community..
