The ALEPH2020 Initiative

The ALEPH2020 initiative (Animal source foods and Livestock: Ethics, Planet, and Human health) is a global initiative that brings together scientists, policymakers, and other stakeholders to explore the ethical, environmental, and health implications of different dietary patterns. The initiative was launched at the end of 2020 by an international and interdisciplinary consortium of >35 scientific experts.

They were concerned about the growing impact of food production on the planet.

ALEPH2020 aims to provide a forum for evidence-based discussions about how to make food production more sustainable and equitable.

ALEPH2020's Story

ALEPH2020 was launched in 2020 by a group of scientists who were concerned about the growing impact of food production on the planet. The initiative was founded by Frédéric Leroy, a professor of food science at Vrije Universiteit Brussel, and Mark Post, a Dutch scientist who is known for developing the world's first lab-grown hamburger.

ALEPH2020 has since grown to become a global initiative with over 400 members from over 50 countries. The initiative is led by a steering committee that includes scientists, policymakers, and other stakeholders from around the world.

ALEPH2020 is committed to providing a forum for evidence-based discussions about how to make food production more sustainable and equitable. The initiative believes that by working together, we can create a more sustainable food system that benefits people and the planet.
