The View Magazine is a campaign and advocacy organization fighting for a better and more just system for women with convictions and all women impacted by the justice system. We believe every woman, regardless of her past, deserves to be treated with integrity and dignity, and have her rights fully observed. Our mission is to ensure that the unique roles women hold as mothers, carers, daughters, and sisters are respected and supported. We advocate for a justice system that regards these roles as central to a woman's identity, recognizing that they must be factored into her journey toward rehabilitation.
Our Philosophy: Solutions in the Community, Not Incarceration We want to see a fundamental shift away from incarceration and toward community-based solutions. We understand that a woman's path to crime is often linked to deep-seated issues like economic deprivation and financial exclusion. Instead of simply punishing her, we want the system to offer meaningful support that helps her deal with the root causes of her actions. For women who are imprisoned, we believe appropriate mental health support is not a luxury, but a necessity. We campaign for a "woman-centered" and "gendered" approach to justice, putting the well-being of the woman at the heart of her rehabilitation journey. Our philosophy is rooted in the belief that true, lasting change can only be driven by women who have firsthand experience with the justice system.
As a Community Interest Company (CiC) active in criminal justice reform, our work is multifaceted. We use creativity and direct action to highlight the issues that affect women in prison and those serving their license in the community.
The View Magazine Our flagship activity is the publication of a quarterly magazine. This magazine serves as a powerful platform for the art, poems, and "her-stories" of women in the justice system. The content comes from women who have been victims of crime and women who have committed crimes. By publishing their creative work, we give them a voice and a platform to reclaim their own narratives. Through art and words, we believe we can break down the silos that exist to exclude, criminalize, or victimize women.
Art, Creativity, and Voice We believe in the power of art and creativity to drive transformative change and even provide a path to redemption. We use visuals and words to create hard-hitting messages and viral campaigns that raise awareness of women's rights. The platform we offer allows women to take back their own narrative and transform their stories from a record of their past into a statement of who they are today.
Advocacy and Strategic Litigation In addition to our creative work, we are active campaigners for women's rights in the justice system. We bring strategic litigation to make a difference in how women are treated by the system. Where we see an opportunity for meaningful change, we will take direct action to ensure that women are treated with dignity and that a truly woman-centered approach to justice is implemented.
