Join Magpies & Peacocks for a Night of Transformation
On November 14, 2024, prepare to step into a space where high fashion, environmental responsibility, and human empowerment converge. After Dark 2024 (AD24)—the flagship annual fundraiser hosted by the pioneering non-profit fashion design house Magpies & Peacocks—offers attendees a firsthand look at how the global fashion movement is being reshaped from the ground up.
For over thirteen years, Magpies & Peacocks has operated as the nation’s only 501(c)(3) non-profit design house dedicated strictly to sustainable fashion and circular economy solutions. By intercepting post-consumer textiles, deadstock fabrics, and discarded garments before they hit landfills, their creative studio converts environmental waste into stunning, high-fashion wearable art. Each piece produced tells a story of rebirth. Proving that ethical fashion never requires a compromise on beauty, style, or quality.
A Visionary Approach to Fashion
Magpies & Peacocks' mission reaches far beyond environmental conservation. Their model recognizes that true sustainability must be holistic—addressing human dignity and economic equity alongside environmental protection.
At the center of this mission is the MAKR Collective workforce program. Designed to empower underserved individuals, particularly survivors of human trafficking, domestic violence, and systemic trauma, the program provides paid technical training, skill-building, and employment opportunities within the ethical fashion sector.
Participants gain practical expertise in industrial sewing, design, upcycled manufacturing, and retail operations. By providing a safe environment paired with fair-wage employment, the MAKR Collective creates tangible pathways to financial independence, rebuilding confidence and self-sufficiency for individuals reclaiming their lives.
The International Crisis Behind the Movement
The urgency of events like AD24 is underscored by the staggering scale of fast fashion pollution:
-
Landfill Strain: Globally, an estimated 92 million tons of textile waste are generated each year, with a garbage truck’s worth of clothes landfilled or burned every single second.
-
Resource Depletion: Producing a single cotton shirt requires over 2,700 liters of water. Enough for one person to drink for two and a half years.
-
Social Impact: The traditional fashion supply chain frequently relies on exploited labor in under-regulated markets, disproportionately impacting vulnerable workers.
Events like After Dark 2024 serve as a critical alternative, demonstrating how upcycling can divert thousands of pounds of textiles from landfills annually while funding direct social intervention programs in local communities.

A Celebration of Conscious Consumerism
AD24 is more than a gala or runway event. It is an invitation to join a growing movement toward conscious consumerism. By celebrating creative resourcefulness over disposable trends, the evening highlights how individual choices can collectively transform one of the world's most polluting industries into a force for good.
Mark your calendars for November 14th. Join us for an extraordinary night of fashion, community, and purpose.
Together, we can reshape the future of fashion—one garment, one life, and one community at a time.
